The fashion was growing your hair long - Our older sister Siggy was getting married and asked him to get his hair cut - Pete did as he was told - came back with the lot shaved off !!! Siggy cried her heart out (he did look quite ugly though) he thought it was great and told her 'you said get your hair cut, so I did' (think he went to the barbers on Mossley Road.) I will try to find the photo and put it on here - it will make you laugh ! Anyway, the next 'phase' was the scooter boys - as usual his had to be the best and fastest - crombies were very fashionable then - with the skinhead haircut he really thought he was one of the toughies. As always, whatever machine he had, had to kept in pristine condition - so much so, that when Mum had gone to bed, into the kitchen would come the scooter, be stripped down, cleaned, polished (whatever clothes were about were just used as his polishing rags and he used to bin them, never to be seen again !)There would be scooter parts and oil all over the kitchen floor & table, as usual 'the goldenboy' never got into trouble !!
